Grow A Colony Controls

Use Grow A Colony interaction prompts and Follow, Scavenge, and Attack commands while avoiding outdated or conflicting egg hotkeys.

Grow A Colony uses ordinary Roblox movement plus context actions for the Queen, eggs, digging, drinking, and troop orders. The reliable controls are the labels shown in your current server. Two current guides conflict on fixed egg letters: one reports Worker/Major/Drone on E/R/T, while another shows E as interaction and eggs on R/T/F. Use the action name first, because an update or context can move a shortcut without changing the job.

Movement, camera, and interaction

On PC, use Roblox’s standard movement and camera controls unless the current client shows a custom binding. Approach an object or marked area until its prompt appears, then press or hold the key shown beside the action. Current screenshot-backed gameplay uses an E interaction for digging, drinking, and Shed Wings; that does not prove E is reserved for the same action in every context.

On mobile, use the on-screen movement control, camera drag, and labeled action buttons. Stand close enough for the context prompt to appear before assuming a button is missing. If several units overlap the Queen, rotate the camera and move a short distance so you can see which object or unit the prompt targets.

Read the egg row in the live interface

Do not spend from muscle memory. Find the Worker Egg, Major Egg, or Drone Egg label and confirm the live Food cost and population availability before selecting it. Current sources agree on the unit names and roles but disagree on the letters. That makes the live egg row the only safe key map for your server.

If a shortcut does nothing, check depth, Food, cap, and focus before changing keys. Egg laying can be blocked when the Queen is not far enough underground. A menu or chat field can also capture keyboard focus. Close the panel, click back into the game, and try the labeled action once.

Follow, Scavenge, and Attack

Follow is the regrouping order. Use it before leaving the nest, when fighters are scattered, or when you need selected units to return with the Queen. Watch the group assemble before moving; sprinting away immediately can make a slow or blocked unit look unresponsive.

Scavenge is the gathering order used for the Food loop. Turn it on for Workers, then watch one unit travel to a source and return. If Workers remain near the Queen, check whether Follow is still controlling them or whether the path begins at a blocked entrance.

Attack commits combat units toward a target. Use it after you have identified the threat and an escape route. Do not leave it enabled while casually passing a creature or rival colony. If units chase too far, cancel the aggressive order, regroup with Follow, and move back to ground where the Queen can observe them.

A clean command sequence

  1. Select or stand with the group you want to move.
  2. Enable Follow and wait for the units to gather.
  3. Move to a safe staging point where the target and retreat path are visible.
  4. For Food, switch the relevant Workers to Scavenge and watch a round trip.
  5. For combat, select the intended fighters and enable Attack on the chosen target.
  6. When the job is complete, cancel the task that would pull units onward.
  7. Regroup before crossing difficult terrain or returning to the nest.

This sequence limits the number of changing variables. If a unit stops, you know which order and route produced the problem. Issuing Follow, Scavenge, and Attack together without watching state changes makes troubleshooting much harder.

PC and mobile differences to expect

Keyboard play can expose single-key egg actions, while mobile must place the same choices in touch UI. Screen size can change whether the commands appear as text, toggles, or compact buttons. The job remains the same even when placement changes. Use unit names, prompt text, and ON/OFF state rather than a screenshot’s exact coordinates.

Roblox controller support can vary by experience and client. If the game does not display a clear controller glyph for an action, use a supported keyboard/mouse or touch client rather than guessing a button. This page does not claim a complete controller map without current in-game evidence.

Fix unresponsive controls

First close chat and menus so the game has focus. Move away from overlapping prompts and reapproach the intended target. Check whether the Queen is deep enough, whether the egg can be afforded, and whether the unit cap allows another spawn. For orders, switch the current toggle off, reselect a small group, and issue only one command.

If movement is the problem, simplify the path. Update 5.4 states that pathfinding was fixed, but a narrow entrance, crowded chamber, or target across complex ground can still obscure what the unit is doing. A short visible route is the best control test. Rejoin a current server if the UI and official update state appear out of sync.

Quick questions

What is the Worker Egg key?

Use the letter beside Worker Egg in your current UI. Current August sources conflict between E and R, so a permanent key claim would be misleading.

How do I make ants collect Food?

Use Scavenge for Workers and confirm the complete return to the colony. Reaching the source without returning does not complete production.

How do I stop a bad attack?

Turn off the aggressive order, use Follow to regroup, and lead the units to a safe staging area before assigning another target.

Sources and confidence

Follow, Scavenge, and Attack plus the three unit roles are Community corroborated across current gameplay sources, while the role split is also supported by the official description. Exact letters remain Needs in-game testing because current sources disagree.
