Grow A Colony starts you as a Queen responsible for turning an empty site into a working AI colony. The stable opening is an order of operations: establish the nest, create an economic unit, confirm Food actually returns, keep the Queen supplied, and only then invest in Majors or Drones for fighting. The four guides in this section follow that sequence and separate reliable role information from controls or numbers that can change between updates.

Nest Building
Use the marked dig location, respond to the shallow-nest warning, leave movement space, and expand without trapping units.
Build the nestThe first-session sequence
Begin with the free option shown in the colony selector; current community walkthroughs identify Black Ant as the starter. Look for the green dig marker instead of placing eggs on the open surface. The game can refuse egg laying when the Queen is not deep enough, so treat that message as a location check rather than a missing-resource error.
Once the chamber accepts an egg, make a Worker before building a fighting force. Roblox’s current description explicitly assigns Workers to Food and assigns Majors and Drones to fighting. Follow one Worker all the way from the nest to a source and back. A visible outbound trip is only half the test: Food has to return to the colony before it can fund the next decision.
Keep the Queen’s own survival needs separate from stored Food. Current screenshot-backed reporting shows a Water meter and an interaction prompt at a water source. Refill before an expedition, because a long trip becomes a bad production test if the Queen must turn around midway. Exact capacity and drain behavior remain update-sensitive; the live meter is the correct value for your server.
After repeated Food deliveries, add a combat unit when a nearby creature or rival colony blocks the next useful route. Do not treat “Major” and “Drone” as a fixed tier order: the official description confirms both as fighters but does not publish their stats. Use the live egg card, population display, and immediate threat to choose.
Read prompts before memorizing keys
Two current sources disagree about fixed egg shortcuts. One August interface review reports Worker, Major, and Drone on E, R, and T. A separate screenshot-backed walkthrough reports interaction/dig on E and eggs on R, T, and F. Those layouts may reflect different moments, modes, or updates. For that reason, these guides name the action first and treat the prompt displayed in your current server as authoritative.
The stable command vocabulary is more useful than a copied key chart. Follow gathers selected units around the Queen for movement. Scavenge sends gathering behavior toward available resources. Attack commits units to a target. Toggle one order at a time while learning, then watch one complete result before changing another setting.
On mobile, use the labeled on-screen actions rather than trying to reproduce a keyboard shortcut. If a touch button is hidden behind another interface element, close nonessential panels, rotate only if Roblox supports the change cleanly, and reselect the unit or Queen. The game state matters more than matching a PC screenshot pixel for pixel.
Diagnose the colony as a loop
Build for readable pathfinding
Update 5.4 says pathfinding was fixed, but good geometry still makes unit behavior easier to understand. Keep the first tunnel broad enough to watch units enter and leave. Avoid piling every egg, unit, and Queen into the doorway. When a route breaks, move one obstruction or order at a time instead of rebuilding the whole nest.
Short resource routes are easier to verify than ambitious ones. Once one Worker repeats a clean trip, extend gradually. Recheck after a nest expansion, after a move toward a new resource, and after a combat order. That turns pathfinding from a vague feeling into an observable chain: target acquired, route followed, resource collected, resource returned.
Decide when the opening is complete
The colony is ready to progress when the nest accepts eggs, at least one Worker completes repeated Food deliveries, the Queen can reach Water safely, and a small combat group can defend the route without pulling every Worker away. A large population is not required. Stability is a better milestone than a copied ratio because population caps, costs, and stats can change.
From there, use Units to compare jobs, Colonies to understand unlock types, and Progression to plan Points, the Skill Tree, and Game Pass decisions. If the route is threatened, move to Combat rather than spending Food blindly.
Watch a current colony loop
Use the video to recognize the Queen viewpoint, unit orders, and the movement between nest and resources. Treat visible values and shortcuts as a recording-specific snapshot; follow the labels in your live server when they differ.
